19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first professional championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
